For centuries, Viborg was one of Denmark’s most important gathering points – the old capital of Jutland and a centre of power for both king and church.

People travelled here from across the country to trade, celebrate, and debate the future of the realm. Kings were acclaimed – and assassinated. Citizens met for court assemblies and the famous Snapsting. And from this very place, the Danish Reformation spread and transformed the country forever.

Today, you can still feel the presence of history in the Cathedral Quarter. Some of Viborg’s most significant cultural and historical sites are located in the city’s oldest streets – surrounding Viborg Cathedral.
