The Five Halder consist of castle ruins and a manor house set in one of Denmark’s most beautiful natural landscapes, between the Dollerup Hills and Lake Hald.

The area encompasses more than 800 years of history shaped by power – from the Middle Ages and the Reformation to modern times.

The name refers to the five historic sites that can still be experienced at 'De fem Halder': Gammel Hald, Valdemars Skanse, Hald Castle, Daas Manor and Hald Manor House.

Explore the landscape on foot and experience newly renovated ruins, a baroque garden, the impressive Hald Manor House and much more. Families can explore the historic playground, and discover stories of power, conflict and everyday life through the centuries.

The area is open to visitors all year round. By the main car park, Viborg Museum presents an exhibition in the Hald Barn, where the site’s 800-year history is brought to life through information panels, an animated film and drone footage. The animated film is available in English, and admission to the exhibition is free.
